In today’s article we will look at not the usual disposable device, of which there are a lot today for every taste and color, but a rather interesting device – a maintenance-free disposable Gobar Max from the company Vapefly.

Inside the box you are greeted by a white bag with the device itself, wrapped in instructions and a small “heel” with a mark on the battery capacity and standard symbols of compliance with European Union standards and a ban on disposal with household waste. This part is designed to allow you to seal the filling hole once and for all.

The instructions themselves are extremely simple and clear, sometimes understandable even without translation. Unfortunately, there is no Russian here – all the inscriptions are exclusively in English. Pay special attention to the warning sign PLEASE READ BEFORE USE! If you arrogantly think that these are empty words, then you are likely to risk irrevocably ruining your device. According to the manual, the kit should also have contained a certain Opening Tool, but I didn’t find it in any box. And it’s not a big deal – it’s quite possible to do without it.
Inside the bag, Gobar Max has the usual protection: a plug in the mouthpiece and a decent plug placed on the entire lower part of the device. And although there is no liquid inside the devices that came to me, the protection’s task is approximately the same as in ordinary disposables – to prevent accidental activation of the electronics during transportation.

The device is unusual primarily in the way it is sold: you can buy the Gobar Max Pod like any other disposable device – filled with liquid of one of ten flavors with a strength of 20 mg/ml. Or you can do it without liquid, so you can refuel with any mix yourself, completely relying on your own taste and wishes for nicotine. At the same time, the very idea of “disposability” does not disappear anywhere: it will not be possible to replace the evaporator or cartridge, and if the winding fails, the entire device, like any other disposable device, will go entirely into the trash. For some, this solution is more than suitable (15 ml of liquid in your pocket without the need to constantly refill!), but for others, on the contrary, it would still be more suitable to use a “classic” pod system with replaceable consumables.
Unfortunately, Vapefly/Gobar Vape does not provide information on which formulation is best suited to their device. But we will assume that we are talking about the most common type of liquid today – 50VG/50PG. And no matter what strength and type of nicotine, with this device no one will forbid vaping even zero.
The appearance of these disposable Gobar Max Pods, although it can be called attractive, is hardly unusual: a streamlined aluminum body with anatomical curves and a colored coating, as well as darkened transparent plastic in the upper part, where the mouthpiece and a suspicious-looking switch are located. There are no buttons, as in other similar devices, and the electronics are triggered by a sensor – take a puff (just don’t forget to fill it first!) and get steam.

Adjusting the tightness

On the top of the device, on one side there is only an anatomically shaped mouthpiece with a plug installed, and on the other there is a rotary switch. We will return to the functionality of the switch a little later, but for now we will consider other elements of the device. Under the bottom plug there is a filling hole with its own separate plug, a USB Type-C charging connector and a small lever that allows you to adjust the tightening from very tight to just tight. The vaporizer of the device is not designed for “clouds”, but is designed exclusively for the “cigarette” MTL vaping style.

The charging characteristics are not the most outstanding; when connected to a power supply (5V/3.1A), Gobar Max only pulled 5V/0.5A. This means that it will take more than an hour to replenish the built-in battery with energy. But there is also good news: with the cable connected, you can vape; the device’s electronics support operation in pastro mode.

Since our device does not contain liquid, you will have to purchase and refill it yourself. But it’s not enough to just pour the mix inside the tank; you’ll need to do some more manipulations. But first things first.

The first step is to remove the silicone plug from the filling hole on the bottom of the Gobar Max. It is difficult to pick up a small short tongue with your fingers; you will need at least short nails or some kind of tool. It is difficult to insert the plug back, but it holds quite securely. The hole for the liquid is made of a decent size – ∅6 mm, there should be no problems with the most common containers on the market, you can even try pouring it “from the throat” in a thin stream. Here you can move the lever responsible for the tightness of the tightening (just don’t even think about checking it – you’ll burn the dry evaporator!) and admire the tiny holes through which air will flow into the device.

I decided to try not a salt liquid, but a good old lye – Smoke Hunter from Alpaca with a strength of 6 mg/ml and thus a 50/50 composition. We turn the device upside down, insert the bottle spout into the hole and slowly and painfully pour the liquid from the jar into the Gobar Max. You can fill it to the very top, the main thing is that it does not spill over the top. We insert the plug, check how securely it sits (otherwise everything will pour on you) and move on to the next step.
Now you can take a plastic patch glued to a piece of paper and seal the filling hole. For those who like to refill disposables, I would like to remind you that not every vaporizer can handle 15 milliliters. Especially dark tobacco. And to say that it will continue to work is generally only possible if you have either great optimism or a lack of basic knowledge about vaping and liquids. Now we return to the round switch at the top. After we refilled the Gobar Max, the evaporator is still dry – this can be seen in the second photo from above. The round switch now needs to be turned clockwise and moved from the CLOSED position to OPEN.

We tilt the device so that the liquid from the storage tank flows into the tank with the evaporator. Through the transparent plastic you can clearly see when the “cartridge” is filled with liquid. Now turn the switch counterclockwise again to the CLOSED position so that the liquid remains in the tank with the evaporator and does not flow back. This way the mix is not in constant contact with the coil, which can oxidize flavors and nicotine, but is stored separately. Before using it for the first time, be sure to wait about five minutes until the cotton in the evaporator is soaked.

Now all that remains is to recharge the device and monitor the liquid level: in the main storage and in the part where the evaporator is located. It is important not to forget to add liquid from the main one so that the winding does not burn out ahead of time and does not please you with dry hits or even garricks. One mistake and you are the owner of a device filled with tasty liquid, but no longer suitable for use with a burnt winding.
Impressions and thoughts
A device in a similar format, as presented by Vapefly, is fraught with enormous opportunities not only for ordinary buyers. You are not just buying a disposable vape with Chinese liquid, but you can refill it with your loved one! There are advantages even for manufacturers. I’m not talking about contract manufacturing, when any company can order branding in China and add its own mixes in order to sell one-off products under its own brand. The point here is that e-liquid manufacturers can take advantage of this option to present their products in vape shops or at exhibitions: they filled the line with several of these “disposables”, provided them with hygienic mouthpieces, and everyone can try the new mix.
Unfortunately, there were some pitfalls. As the famous Murphy’s Law states: “If anything can go wrong, it will go wrong.” That’s what happened to me, I made a “typical rookie mistake”, i.e. Didn’t read the instructions properly. I refilled the device, opened the supply to the cartridge, but did not pour the liquid into the part where the evaporator is located. But I responsibly left the device for a few minutes so that the Gobar Max was “saturated with liquid.” And since the vaporizer remained dry, at the very first puff I received the divine aroma of burnt cotton wool, and from a steamer I turned into a smoker and involuntarily coughed. In general, minus one device. Yes, I agree that you need to be able to blunt it like that. I don’t agree that this can’t happen to someone else.
Perhaps this complaint – the possibility of error with such a simple device – is the only one. The retail price of Gobar Max is approximately $10/900₽/25 BYN per piece. For this money, you get a device that does not require you to buy consumables in the form of cartridges or evaporators, but only need a bottle of liquid and a cable to charge the battery. This is an excellent option for those who do not want to think about any care or maintenance of their vape. Or you need an unpretentious second device.
