Judging by the user manual, Kangertech KBOX has several degrees of protection against troubles:
incorrect installation of battery polarity;
short circuit at the output;
low resistance (below 0.4 Ohm);
overexposure (more than 10 seconds) of the “fire” button;
overheating (obviously, of the board elements and battery).
The protection is activated by three-time blinking of the LEDs, the battery discharge – five-time blinking.
The mod comes with a short user manual in English and French, as well as a card for checking the authenticity of the device itself. e-juice canada There are no flimsy chargers, no-name batteries, cheap clearomizers in the kit – everything is very ascetic and, in my opinion, very stylish.
The very first (and, as it turned out, correct) impression after removing the Kangertech KBOX from the box: it is primitive to the point of genius! It has only two banal buttons – “fire” and power control. There are also two vertical columns of LEDs, one of which shows the level of the remaining battery charge, the other – the selected power. It turns out to be a kind of “pumped up mechanical mod”.
The device is turned on / off by the now standard five-time pressing of the fire button. My Kangertech KBOX has a matte silver finish (not very similar to sandblasting), which will at least extend the life of its appearance a little – after all, the case is aluminum, and scratches and nicks will not stand out in contrast.
The mod looks quite interesting – at least, it is not just a parallelepiped, forgive me, lovers of “bugs” and “i-sticks”. On the side of the battery compartment there are through slots in the form of the manufacturer’s logo, which simultaneously serve as a gas outlet, which is a rather unusual and interesting solution. The height of the Kangertech KBOX coincides with the width of a man’s palm, and it is almost completely hidden in a fist. The battery compartment cover has knurling-ribs, not sharp, quite comfortable for fingers. Unscrewing this cover is carried out with effort, but not because of poor threading, but because the spring, resting against the battery, keeps the cover “in tension” all the time, which is, in my opinion, more of a plus than a minus – after all, the more reliable the connection, the less power loss. This spring has some kind of coating, similar to brass, but does not oxidize.
Pros
When changing the resistance of the coil, the Kangertech KBOX automatically adjusts the output power.
It saves the battery quite well, which speaks of the quality of the internal connections. A 2500 mAh 35A battery with a 0.9 Ohm coil is enough for me for a full working day, considering that I vape almost “without taking it out” at a power of 20 W. The Kangertech KBOX itself, as I already said, does not heat up. There are also no surges or dips in power, the board holds evenly with both the tank and the dripper at all stages of battery discharge.
Quite a tight spring-loaded pin.
The device can be comfortably used by pressing the fire with your thumb, and also, turning it 180 degrees, with your index finger.
Cons
Weak indication and small LEDs – in the sun you have to cover the device with your palm to see which LEDs are on. Fixed power adjustment, lacks a couple of values at the bottom, for example, at least 10 and 15 (17) W.
Power adjustment only in a circle, there is only one button for this, without “+/-“.
No resistance indication, and in general – no LCD or LED display, at least one-line. For me, this is not a disadvantage.
Conclusion
As we can see, the Kangertech KBOX includes all the necessary minimum set of protections and functions needed for comfortable vaping, without unnecessary, in my opinion, counters and puff cutoffs. The disadvantages, in my subjective opinion, are not very critical. For example, I am unlikely to need to adjust the power or check the battery discharge level every ten minutes. I got a comfortable temperature and TX by winding a coil of the required resistance, measured with a regular household multimeter. I will wind all the following coils with the same number of turns. On the other hand, there are no electrical adjustments at all on the mechs, and this does not scare anyone.
Kangertech KBOX does not require any modifications with a file, such as: tinning, stripping contacts, soldering wires, tightening springs, tightening bolts, gas welding, explosive riveting and sober assembly.
In general, it is a very good, simple, reliable and relatively branded Chinese device. I did not disassemble the mod, because it is mine, already loved and dear. Although I would be happy to see what is inside it. But someday (I hope not very soon), I think this will happen.
